Party Better: What to Do Before, During, + After Drinking to Avoid Hangovers

The party last night was a blast! You had wine night with the girls watching The Bachelor, your team won the big championship game, you stayed out until last call at The Standard in NYC, Diplo’s set at XS Nightclub in Wynn Las Vegas was epic, your Uber receipt says 4am, etc! But the morning may be a different story thanks to nobody’s friend: hangovers. Hangovers are the unpleasant symptoms a person has after drinking too much alcohol; they are the body’s way of rudely reminding us about the hazards of our overindulgence. But are they avoidable?


Luckily, there are proven steps you can take to prepare for and prevent an impending hangover while still having great time! We’ve outlined our most helpful suggestions below: 


Before You Party 

  • Drink lots of water (at least 16 ounces) 
  • Fill up on nutrient dense food with plenty of vitamins (skip the greasy food)
  • Take your vitamins, specifically B-complex!


This will come as no surprise, but it’s important to make sure you don’t start drinking when you are already dehydrated. Alcohol is a diuretic, meaning it makes you urinate more, so make sure to be drinking enough water and water-heavy foods such as fruits and vegetables before a night out. 


  • Don’t exercise at least an hour before. You will lose the immediate post-workout recovery and will begin drinking dehydrated.
